NFL season kicks off with Super Bowl champion Chiefs hosting Lions; Rodgers on MNF

The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the rising Detroit Lions will kick off the 2023 season, while Aaron Rodgers will make his New York Jets debut on “Monday Night Football” against the Buffalo Bills.

On Sept. 7, the Chiefs will meet the Lions on “Thursday Night Football” after winning their second title in four seasons. The Lions ended 9-8 last season after a 1-6 start and eliminated Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers from the playoffs with a 20-16 win at Lambeau Field in the final regular-season game.

The Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in the Super Bowl thanks to two-time NFL MVP Mahomes.

According to Thursday’s NFL schedule, Rodgers will debut his new green-and-white No. 8 Jets jersey against Josh Allen and the Bills in an AFC East clash on Sept. 11.

The NFL schedule will be released Thursday night.

Thursday’s games included a Week 13 NFC championship rematch. On December 3, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles will host the 49ers. In a 31-7 conference title game win, the Eagles eliminated Brock Purdy. By the time the teams meet again, Purdy should be back from elbow surgery.

Mahomes and the Chiefs will host AFC West foe Las Vegas in the early game on Christmas Day, while the Dallas Cowboys will visit San Francisco on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 5.

Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, will be recognized at the Patriots’ home opener. Brady, who led the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships, retired in February after three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The NFL announced on Wednesday that Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars will play two international games in the same season in London.

On Oct. 1, the Jaguars will play the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium and the Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The epidemic canceled the Jaguars’ 2020 London home games.

Three more overseas games were scheduled by the NFL. On October 15, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs will play the Miami Dolphins at Eintracht Frankfurt Stadium on November 5. The Indianapolis Colts will play the New England Patriots in Frankfurt on Nov. 12.

On Nov. 24, Rodgers and the Jets will host the Dolphins in the first Black Friday game, the league said Wednesday. On Christmas Day, the Eagles will face the New York Giants, while in Week 17, the Chiefs will play Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in a rematch of the AFC title game.
